I truly do NOT see the point in disappointing readers this way. Paid $4 for half the book today; will have to wait three weeks and pay another $4 to get conclusion. Way to rip off the customer! Just give us the whole book for full price at one time please! Book COULD have had a 5 star review if had not frustrated me this way. In fact, I may not even purchase the second installment on principle, and I always buy your books on publication date. Very unhappy at this new technique Laura.

At the Edge Alpha Crew Part 1 edition by Laura Griffin Romance eBooks Reviews

I should have been cautious when I saw "Part 1", but I expected Part 1 to at least be part one and not just part-half-of-one. I won't read part 2 and will be cautious with this author in the future. This marketing ploy just makes me mad.

I also detest being force to select from a list of pre-selected words with no option to do otherwise - I would not choose any of them but can't leave a review without doing so. Therefore, I chose the least appealing words offered.
I was super excited when I found out Laura Griffin was coming out with a new SEAL series. The plot was exciting. Loved the Philippines and Coronado settings. But wow, Emma the heroine was the epitome of TSTL. She kept arguing in the beginning with the SEALs instead of shutting the hell up and doing what the professionals were telling her to do. She was such a hindrance. Emma was supposed to be this spunky, brave, capable woman, but instead came across as spoiled, bratty, and stupid, arguing, questioning, and whining until she got her way, even after people who have more experience than her kept telling her otherwise. Could NOT stand her; I don't know what the hero saw in her. They had zero chemistry and his attraction to her seemed forced and contrived, and she kept ignoring and second-guessing his advice. Ryan the hero, on the other hand, was a great character. More of him and his teammates and less of Emma, please. He was the only reason I kept on reading. I also have to take issue with the inaccuracy regarding the Tagalog language. In the Philippines, Tagalog is spoken mainly in Luzon - specifically, the Manila and immediate surrounding areas. The rest of the provinces speak entirely different dialects that are pretty much whole different languages that bear no resemblance to Tagalog at all. Even though Tagalog is a secondary language in many parts of the Philippines, a lot of locals don't speak it, including in the vague "south" where the story took place (was this supposed to be Mindanao?), and especially in the remote areas where the characters were supposed to be in. Yet the ambassador's wife was communicating with the locals who live in the remote southern provinces in Tagalog. This took me out of the story for a bit. Props for trying, but still. I'm not sure if I'm going to buy the second book; the first was incredibly frustrating and annoying.
Laura Griffin is one of my favorite romantic suspense authors, a definite auto-buy for me. I am a huge fan of her Tracers series and her Moreno and Hart installment series. However, I can be objective regarding her work, and I was slightly disappointed by her latest new book 'At the Edge Alpha Crew Part 1.' Unlike some other reviewers, it wasn't the installment format that didn't work for me. I enjoy re-occurring characters, especially if they are well written and developed. But, some of Griffin's excellent character crafting is missing from 'At the Edge'. I know that the author can write herself some stellar characters in a condensed format as she did with Krista Hart in the Moreno and Hart series, but that ability doesn't present itself in 'At the Edge' main characters Emma Wright and Ryan Owen. I never got the impression that there was much depth to either character and their insta-lust really did not work for me. In 'Part 2' I just hope that Griffin gives her characters more substance to go along with the heavy-handed doses of sexual attraction.

The book did get stronger toward the end, so, hopefully,in 'Part 2' the characters can hold their own better with the strong story-line. Of course, I have pre-ordered the next installment, because even a 'just okay' Laura Griffin novel is way superior to so many other romantic suspense books on the market!
I have read many of Laura Griffins books and have always loved them. What happened to her in this one is puzzling to me. This book is so incredibly ridiculous it's pathetic. A woman has just been in a plane crash in the middle of jungle. She chooses to leave the plane to find help - duh, in the jungle? Returns to plane to find the pilot shot to death. A super elite team of four are sent in to rescue. Leader finds her and while waiting for extraction they have sexual fantasies about each other. Give me a break. This book is so unbelievably ridiculous it doesn't really deserve one star. Then book ends in middle of story. If this supposed to have me bye next book, forget it. Don't waste your money on this one. Very disappointed in this authors shift in writing.
I am so disappointed in this book. I love reading Laura Griffin's stories but this book is like a tease. It is short and it is only the first half of the story. I don't understand why it could not have been one full book. It was almost like a throw away book with hardly any plot or understanding of the characters. I guess she is waiting until book 2 to fill in the details but it was very predictable. I wouldn't bother with it. I stupidly ordered both parts so maybe I will have a different reaction when that book or should I say chapters come out
Half a book!!! I love Laura Griffin, she was on my always buy list which explains why I didn't read the fine print about this being part 1. I won't make that mistake again. Liked the characters but probably will not buy part 2 because this irritated me that much. If I had paid better attention I would have waited until part 2 came out and bought them together or at least waited until part 2 came out and read them together. My bad. I gave it 3 stars because the story was good but I hated the format
